I have a player that I intended to redshrt after the season started as I have done in the past. This player was not in the depth chart but somehow got in for 2 min. in game 1. I can't RS him now and I got a ticket response that's not going to help.

I want to know if I can RS the player as a soph? Has anyone been able to RS a 2nd yr player and have it work? Or should I forget to RS him at all? And if it makes a difference if he plays his first yr.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts or advice.

I RS'ed a player as a Soph. and had no problem at all. Of course, on his scouting report during recruiting it had the message "whatever we would ask him to do he would do" or whatever the message is that says a recruit is open to redshirting.  I'd give it a shot if I were you.

He's much less likely to accept a RS as a sophomore, but it definitely is possible.

I have redshirted a couple sophs, and tried on a bunch more who refused. If there are a lot of players at his position (upperclassmen) it helps,

And if redshirting as a soph doesn't work you can always try it when he's a junior. In all my seasons I've lucked out once doing that. Never ever had a senior accept though.

I just red shirted a Junior this season and he took it right away(D3 Tark- Lynchburg).  It was the first time I have ever tried to red shirt a Junior...  Lucky I guess..

It's definitely possible to redshirt a Sophomore
