Would it be appropriate to sitemail another coach and ask them about the potential of a recruit they cut? Would it matter if the coach was in a different division?

No it wouldn't be appropriate. You'd be privvy to information that someone else would not have access to.

Guess I am in the minority.   I think its fine to sitemail the coach.    The info is available to ANYONE who takes the time to site mail the coach.

So would you think it's fine to sitemail a coach about a recruit from Texas so you don't have to scout the whole state? I mean it's available to ANYONE who takes the time, right?

What if its a recruit that isnt in the scouting system because hes a transfer?

Ever hear of a scouting trip?

You can get potential by using scouting trips. That's their primary focus, not pulldowns.

Why should I pay $1,000 so you can have free information?  Theoretically, you'd never have to spend money on FSS.  Think of the recruiting advantage you'd have with all that carryover money next season.

Transfers are not included in FSS.    Check one of the development chats when FSS came out and I think you will see that even seble was OK with contacting the coach to get the potentials.

How will you be able to find out the potential of a Transfer player? (zhawks - Hall of Famer - 2:49 PM)

Scouting services don't cover transfers. That information can only be determined via either traditional recruiting tactics or via sitemailing his old coach.

I find that response interesting, but i completely disagree. I think you shouldn't sitemail the coach.

But I guess it can't be stopped if seble said it is ok.

As a general rule, I don't talk to any other coaches during recruiting, except via the Coaches Corner, so everyone else can see it.

The only problem I have is that the access may not be available to everyone.  The former coach may only respond to certain requests.  Then again, that probably happens in the real world, too, when a coach calls to ask about a transferring player.

I couldn't disagree more. Firstly, why would the person asking be the only one that is able to know? If other coaches were seeking the same information then what is stopping them from asking the exact same questions? Secondly, coaches accepting transfers (or any players for that matter) call that player's previous programs coach(s) to obtain information about that player. So, why isn't it acceptable to ask a question that any coach is capable of asking?
