28 year old decreasing ratings already? Topic

Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Wil Hill

I have 20m in training every year.  Why would he be losing power and range already?  No injury last year.

Maybe your coaching staff last year?  Your current coaches look ok, plus Hill's makeup is great.  That would **** me off.

Coaches wouldn't have anything to do with decline of physical ratings.  They would only impact skill ratings.

I'd be interested to see the response to a submitted ticket. If he had lousy makeup, this would actually be kind of cool - after all, you can have great training facilities, but you can't make the slacker train in the off season if he just wants to party on his yacht all winter. However, he has great makeup and should be training all winter long.

From what I noticed 28, 29 is fairly common for the first time rating hit for postision players.
Jay Downs
Hootie Bailey
Del Sierra
Cesar Gabriel
Gerald Hansen
Al Mendoza

I could go on. Maybe it is just the way I budget I don't know.

the average peak age is 27...that doesn't mean everyone peaks at 27, some players will peak at 24 and others 32 and some players will hit their peak and plateau for 5 years before beginning decline while for others the plateau may only last for 2....this guy seems well within the range of normal outcomes

Hill hurt his hammy in S20.  Range, speed and baserunning took a hit.   That 9m medical didn't help.

I think the interesting thing is the continued decline.    I wouldn't think the game is programmed for lingering injuries although, if you've ever pulled a hammy, you know the damn thing never gets back to 100% unless you stop for an extended period of time.

He's also Canadian. That can't help.

I also wouldn't think that the game is programmed for lingering injuries, but my former player Marshall Whitney makes me wonder, when you look at his DL history:

Season Franchise Level Injury Stint Placement Date Activation Date
11 Apollos ML Shoulder, tendinitis 15-Day 12/29 PM2 1/10 PM
12 Apollos ML Shoulder, labrum tear 60-Day 5/7 AM --
13 Apollos ML Shoulder, labrum tear 15-Day 6/3 AM 6/13 AM
13 Apollos ML Shoulder, labrum tear 60-Day 6/23 PM --
21 Apollos ML Elbow, tendinitis 60-Day 7/26 PM --

Three labrum tears within two seasons seems a little odd, doesn't it?

The other funny thing about him is that he was coming off of two pretty decent seasons in S11 and S12 when he suffered the first labrum tear right at the end of the S12 regular season.  Took a ratings hit, but recovered over the off-season.  At the beginning of S13, he was absolutely horrible out of the gate until the labrum tore again.  It was almost as if the problem was there and he was (unsuccessfully) trying to pitch through it when it blew up.  Went on the 15-day DL, came off, had a few more unsuccessful starts when it blew up for a third time.

for those interested, see below for the customer service response...

Chris,

In HBD every player has a different peak age and the range varies.

Regression occurs when a player passes his peak age and that is what is happening to your player right now.
