Recruiting Battle question Topic

So i'm at a DIII school with B+ prestige, and I'm wanting to get a DII recruit, but a D+ prestige school has already caught his interest, this DII school is Sim AI. Is it possible for me to win this battle, and what is the best way to get him to consider me? Thanks guys.

*note: this is an answer that assumes you're new, which you're not, but I figure new people might read it.

Call his coach once and make sure that he's dropped.  If you get a message that says he might consider you if his top choices don't work out, then you're going to need to throw STs at him, and once the STs indicate that he's interested NOW, you can battle for him.

If he's never going to consider you, stop trying.

And if he's willing to talk to you right away, you're ready to fight right away.

But either way, once you're fighting vs. a sim, I'd use enough HVs/CVs/calls to get on his considering list, then send just one HV or a CV each cycle until you're in the lead.  That way there's less chance that you overspend.

Scouting Trips.

I got the message that he would consider me if his top choices didn't pan out.. But like I said he is already considering another school, now I should go ahead and use enough ST to get him to consider me?

use enough to get the message that he's on your board of options... "hey, heard from Tom Smith, looks like he's interested" or something like that. It's likely to require a large number of STs (10+) with someone already looking at him.

once you get that message, switch to other recruiting methods. GL.

In my (admittedly limited) experience, it's a huge mistake to try to battle for players in D3 - especially against D2 schools.  Sim or not, it's going to cost you so much to even get down to his final two that you'd be better off letting him go and finding someone who is not considering another school.

You run a high risk of coming away broke and empty-handed.

I would also recommend waiting to take any action other than the initial phone call to the kid until the first FSS Word on the Street report comes out. That will give you an idea of the degree to which you'll have to spend. No sense blowing a wad of cash to find out the kid is in tight with the D2 program already.

I'll also echo what ethan said -- make sure the kid is something special and worth the effort to go after. A lot of times in D3 it makes no sense to battle because you can find a comparable player elsewhere that nobody's on and pay a fraction of the price you would in a battle to get him. Great players are worth battling over...good players are easily replaced if you look elsewhere.

If he is already considering a school in the higher division I think it will be damn near impossible to pull him down, and then if you do you'd likely still have to fight off the sim further...

If you were headed to a D2 school would you drop to a D3 school offering the same free education? Maybe if you were assured a NT Championship.... otherwise I'd move on. That D2 D+ is at worst slightly better than your D3 B+.

Appreciate all of the feedback, I decided even though its a sim that its still a battle that isn't worth my time.

U could probably easily win the battle, but the comments about him having to be worth it are true. However, I will respectfully disagree you shouldn't battle in d3 - if not, what r u doing instead? Scouting massively? I think it's well worth it to battle regularly, personally...

How can you battle a d2 school at d3 with the small budgets given at that level? In this situation I don't think it's wise. If you're battling other d3 schools then maybe but there are so many similar players at the lower levels why waste the money battling when there's a twin recruit up the road?

I agree, I think its all about picking your battles,. There are many good recruits to choose from, but only a certain amount will fit into your system the way you want. Now, another quick question... If a DII recruit says that he isn't interested in my school, is there still any chance if no school shows him any interest that he will settle for my school?
