eventually play some d3 sf?  This is end of freshman year.  If he gets the higher part of his average speed and gets up to 40 or so, and his BH gets up to 40+ is it worth a try?

absolutely.

This guy looks like a great defensive player for D3. Just keep his distro down.

He can, but I'd rather put him at PF I think...  But if you've got an incumbent entrenched there, sure.  He's not gonna score anywhere, but 47+ BH and 47 pass along with 40 speed is plenty for an SF.

I have some hopes for offense - I haven't been spending minutes there, but his lp, bh and per were all high highs, so he could have significant development left there. (i was working on his big man stats because that was where his depth was needed this year). But if Whittaker can be a solid sf by senior year, might change which of several guys I am looking at in recruiting

Revisiting an old post;  it is now Whittaker's senior year. . .  how would you answer the small forward question after his development?

I would play him at PF or you would have quite a SF on your hands that can rebound and play defense but contribute a little on the offensive end.

My thought was that with these posts ...

Name Yr. Pos. A SPD REB DE BLK LP PE BH P WE ST DU FT TOT
Carl McQuire Jr. C 82 21 67 89 40 18 25 18 28 62 71 49 C 570
Josiah Derry Jr. C 43 11 85 44 80 36 2 8 18 55 79 55 C 516
Jimmy Whittaker Sr. C 66 39 73 63 48 57 61 38 47 66 84 79 C- 721
Alexander Shaw Sr. C 42 17 92 55 75 33 2 5 29 32 70 60 D 512
Kevin Clark Sr. PF 45 34 81 58 44 93 41 22 12 63 73 76 C+ 642

I would be better off with Whittaker at sf, McQuire at center and Clark at PF?  McQuire is underwhelming at rebounding, but having that 73 at sf should make up for it, and McQuire is good defensively, and Clark should be able to handle the post scoring role?

I normally put the guy with better ATH, BH and Pass at PF instead of C. I would go with the following...

Clark C
McQuire PF
Whitaker at SF

On the other hand. . .  Might want to start

Name Yr. Pos. A SPD REB DE BLK LP PE BH P WE ST DU FT TOT
Harry Faust Sr. SG 45 51 28 29 14 19 80 56 63 21 84 71 B- 561

At SF, in which case Whittaker at PF and McQuire at C?  With Clark being a backup?  THat does create a logjam in the post though with one more post player than I have places to put;  Either SHaw, CLark or Derry would end up odd man out.  I think I am more comfortable, however, using Faust as what I picked him up for last season.  A 'Microwave' off the bench at sf, and an emergency reserve at both guard positions in case of foul trouble.  And a bit of a zone buster to keep people from collapsing defenses down low too much.

At any rate, in a two three zone I think I have a fairly stout post defense.

Faust doesn't really excite me as a SF with 45 ATH and 28 DE. I would go with Whitaker
5/2/2012 12:22 PM
Ryan, I would cut him, so I can recruit him to beat you this year
