Does X money paid give you Y rights? Topic

I'm curious to see where you all stand.  I get the impression that some decisions made within this game are about not having coaches who pay their money quit.  I'm not even going to begin to say that's a bad business model, as they are in a business to make profit.

That being said, I am starting to feel like many coaches, and the WIS staff believe that if you simply pay for enough seasons, you have a 'right' to a certain level of job.  This is within the hiring logic and the firing logic.

My question for you all is- should a certain number of paid seasons give you the right to a job at a specific level (this may not be D1, but I'm sure there's a min level you can maintain 'forever' after so many seasons, no matter how bad), and does this also reserve you the right not to be fired from a job?

Well I think the previous discussion was related to a resume that was questioned, but it still had some merit. I don't think just because you have been a paying member for 10 seasons that you  should have a shot at D1 if you have had no sustained success, whatever level that may be.

If someone wants to go to a low D1 school before they are ready then they will get spit up and chewed up, if they are successful, good for them. I don't understand why people wouldn't want more human coaches in D1.

no, that certainly has not been the case in the past - who wants to play a game where you automatically "win" if you keep playing?

i dont think you should automatically have a right to be handed any job, but i do think at a certain point and with even a moderate level of success you should at least have the right to be considered.  if more qualified people apply for the same job, then they should get the job regardless of their relative number of seasons...i just think it should allow you to be in the conversation rather than shut out completely.

It's not that hard to get to a low d1 job in ten sesons on the merits alone. I don't think automatic consideration after 10 seasons would have any impact on the game

people dont tend to stick around in this game for long periods without winning... so it's not like there is  bunch of .500 coaches who have beenhere for 20 seasons demanding to coach their bcs dream school

Cough- check out my record before you say that anyone here for 20+ seasons is above .500..
