C- DIII recruiting Topic

Need some help recruiting with a C- prestige at DIII... I guess landing drop-downs is my best bet, I've had a few players tell me that I am a backup option, but none are considering me. Signings start tonight, and I have no one considering me yet.

Any tips for a C- prestige at DIII to get a decent recruiting class?

Also, should i ignore recruits that are Considering other schools?

Not necessarily other D3 schools.  The prestige multiplier in D3 is very small.  At most an A+ school might have a 10% advantage over you in terms of impact per recruiting effort, probably even less than that.  If a recruit will talk to you in D3 distance is the biggest difference.  How many openings do you have?  If I have at least 3 openings I almost always go after at least 1 pulldown, though not all coaches prefer to go that way.  But if there's a guy you like who called you a backup option that isn't too far away I'd go ahead and start pulling him down.

I have 5 open scholarships. I've targeted probably 20 guys from DII and only two-three I think said I'd be a backup plan, and all of them are considering other schools.

Signings start tonight, so should I just wait for the intial crop of signings and then take it from there?

I guess I'm just concerned I'm going to get shafted and not have that many good recruits left when signings start and we get closer to the deadline

I would suggest that, at D3, the worst thing you could do is panic and start spending money wildly.  Similar quality players to the ones you are missing now will drop down to you in each successive period right though until noon on the final day of signings.   The best players may be shown on your D2 list, but they may also show up on your D3 list.  It just depends.  You may find a guy that is overall rated in the 380s that has all high potentials that will be better than guys you can sign in the 460s by their senior season.

Be patient and save your money.  At D3, I have seen some of the best signings (and cheapest) the day after the signings start or even on the final day.

yes, with lower prestige in D3 I always start later, letting the big boys spend elsewhere and then trolling their leavings.

I actually feel the exact opposite way.  The important point here is that prestige in D3 has only a small effect in terms of recruiting effort bonuses, but as at all levels a fairly substantial impact in terms of who will talk to you.  At a C- prestige you may have a smaller proportion of the potentially useful recruits willing to talk to you.  The higher prestige guys tend to have more options, so they may not be willing to spend the money to battle you for the best recruits who will talk to you.  Make a move early and see whether they fight back.

If you are worried about money. Don't sign 5 guys. you can easily run a team with 11 and the money in D3 isn't very high to carry over. You will have a little extra money to scout or target players. This advice was given to me when i first started and it did help out a lot. Also, this will balance out your roster by having 4 in one class since the walk on will be cut the next year. If you don't like the 11 man team just sign a fresh next year.

The lower my prestige in D2/D3, the more aggressively I recruit. I do the opposite for D1.
