Am I wrong in thinking that in order to qualify for type D compensation, it should only require that a "slot" offer be turned down?  I'm pretty sure that this isn't the case In HBD.   I'm pretty sure that if you draft a guy who asks for a 12 million signing bonus, then you need to have the 12 million, so that the offer can be officially "made".

Correct.  You have to meet the prospect's initial demands and have him reject it in order to be eligible for type D comp.

Yeah, I think you'd be wrong in thinking that.  We're given "clues", and I'm being sarcastic because we're told exactly who'll ask for more than slot, and we should listen to them if we want comp picks.

Well, the dude rolled out bed with two chicks, told off his boss, killed a goddam giant and forced an entire army to back down.   That's a pretty solid day, IMO.


But, back to shobob's question.  Yes, it's meant to simulate MLB.   Please show me which MLB prospects have such definite statements on signability.   This isn't Burger King.  You can't have it both ways.   No signability hints and I'm with you.   But more than one of us has used the "Probably won't sign" to our advantage.   And many of us would be ****** to have the #3, find a stud and have him say "Nope.  Going to play hockey" even if it meant we'd get a comp pick.

Nothing is sure until they're drafted.  They're kids who change their mind.  Sometimes on their own, sometimes with some guidance.    You know in HBD before you rank them.  Don't draft anyone who doesn't say "slot" if you don't want the hassle of wondering about your comp pick.

No problem.  Keep in mind that everyone ******* about FA changing their mind after budgets are set.   Imagine the joy they'd get when their 1st round pick unexpectedly refuses to sign.
