why Vern Law costs more than Bob Purkey. What am I missing? Is the fielding that much of a difference? Purkey is superior in every + category, pitches more innnings, and more IP/9.  Purkey has a pitching WAR of 3.0, Law 1.7.

The big difference is that Law hit .311 to Purkey's .052. Law had an offensive WAR of .8, whereas Purkey was -.6.

Do salaries include the pitchers offensive stats?

Pitchers hitting abilities are included in salaries.  Many owners were using Bob Caruthers, Walter Johnson, Babe Ruth, etc and batting them in the middle of the order. After quite a bit of complaining, admin made an adjustment.  Great hitting pitchers are now used rarely in comparison to before the adjustment.
