What I like to do is create a composite of targets for ratings by position. So when I joined Moodlight lats year one of the first things I did was do an analysis of the playoff teams and what their position players offensive ratings were accross the board, by position.
For example:
| Pos |
Contact |
Power |
Vs L |
Vs R |
Eye |
| C |
66 |
66 |
63 |
63 |
61 |
| 1b |
77 |
70 |
67 |
68 |
80 |
I also run the sama analysis for top 3 starters, backend starters, top relievers and lesser relievers.
It gives me a baseline to target while I am making moves as I learn the feel of the league and determining who to keep and who cast off. For example, I ended up with a catcher who was 70/76/65/72/76 - and good defensivly. In some worlds I've played that catcher is OK but not someone you are committed too. In moonlight he is a pretty good player. A player good enough to be a good regular on a championship caliber team.
I don't worry about how I rank vs. average but against the team I want to be competing against.
