So did we get a perfect storm of first timers willing to learn, or is there another cause (ex, more new players, nicer feelings, winter weather)?

Approaching tournament time?

It must have been all the "likes" on the WifS facebook page.

I randomly googled "college basketball simulator," and stumbled across this. Had no idea it existed.

Always wished that something like this would truly exist on an Xbox platform or something. Finding it here is great! (Though I wish there was like a "single player" mode, too, that I could accelerate through on the side...)

jeffsu - I wish there was a single player mode as well. I use to play Fast Break Basketball College and it was fun, but not nearly as good as WIS.

It's a shame that they do not do a better job of marketing this. A few TV commercials during March madness would probably fill up a bunch of worlds.

Part of the fun for me, at least, has been that there ISN'T a single-player mode.  Just like in real life college basketball, you have to learn the ropes as you go along, and you're thrown in against the top coaches from the very start.

I suppose the difference is that you can't spend time as a graduate assistant first... but hey, the real-life graduate assistants don't get to beat up on the Sims when they finally get the job, either.

March madness ad time is about 1M-1.5M. I have a feeling that's more than a years worth of WIS revenue.

Isn't WIS owned by Fox or Microsoft? At the top I see a FoxSports.Com on MSN banner and on the bottom of the page I see a Microsoft banner.

I've been getting a few more requests for help than usual too.  I wonder if seble is directing new coaches to the forums or telling them to ask for help when they sign up???

It's owned by Fox, by that doesn't matter when it comes to revenue generation. Every division is suppose to be cash flow positive. It doesn't make business sense for Fox to pay 4-5M for 3x 30second ads for WIS when WIS doesn't even generate enough revenue (let's not even start with profit) to cover the ad cost.

Plus, for it to justify those costs, there would have to be so much interest that they open up new worlds. And that costs money too. Each world only generates about, eh, let's be generous and say 90k a year (did I do my math right? That seems high.) So they make in the general ballpark of 750k-1.2m a year, just HD. Well, servers aren't exactly cheap, and so lets say they spend 1m on servers (no idea how much it would cost per server.) They are in the hole for 5-6m. That does not justify that amount of money.
