Easily Perez. Cambridge's 20 batting average points and stolen bases don't make up for the fact that Perez has 800+ hits, 300+ HRs and 2 MVPs on him.

I guess defense doesn't play a part in your reasoning.

Thanks for your input.

More deserving?

On the surface, Perez.  But as a baseball guy at heart, I think Cambridge would help me win more garmes.  Both are 1st ballot.  I'm a context guy though, and I pick based on which player I would rather have.  Since you play in all three of the worlds I play in, you now know my preferences (as if you didn't already...)

Are you deciding which to vote for?  I'd find it hard to believe that Perez is not the MOST deserving player currently eligible in his world.  Cambridge is probably deserving of HOF for a .913 OPS playing above average 2B... at least deserving of consideration.

Is there a way to look at a player's career RC?  I have to think that Perez more than makes up for the fact he is a 1B/DH over Cambridge's runs saved as an above average 2B.

Come on, 38/19 career +/- and no gold gloves, obviously his ability to play multiple positions is a value add over Perez, but not enough to make up for the difference in offensive production...

Offensive production is .914 OPS to .913 OPS.

And, no, I'm not deciding who to vote for.   One got 12 more votes than the other(I'm sure you know which by now).   I think that's retarded.

.914 OPS over 16 Seasons is quite a bit more impressive than .913 over 13 seasons... and there's a point where accumulated stats are impressive... 770 HR with 2800+ hits  clears that bar.
That said, I'm pretty sure I would have voted for Cambridge, but I would have to see the other options, first.

Perez had 45% more plate apperances in his career and as such provided a lot more value with the bat.  Both are HOF IMO, and it's probably not a 12 vote difference, but there is a clear difference.

I'm pretty sure it would be easier to find a 1B/DH who could OPS .914 over 16 seasons than it would be to find a 2B/3B/CF who can OPS .913 for 13 seasons.

FWIW, I'm not saying Perez isn't deserving.  I'm saying that he shouldn't get 16 votes while Cambridge gets 4.

And, for the sake of full disclosure, I brought Cambridge back at the minimum, stashed him in AAA and hoped he'd get enough injury/call-up AB in the bigs to get his 400th homer.    So I'm a bit annoyed that he hasn't been enshrined.

I agree with that - though I'm also a bit stunned that 770 HRs is only good enough for 16 votes.

300 wins was enough.  Our only enshrinee this season:
