Would you rather start the player with superior ratings but an F/F IQ or an inferior player with A/A IQ.  We're talking about a big with a 20 pt advantage in ATH, REB, DEF, an BLK each.

I'd go with the F player. He'd be atleast a C- 7 games into the season. Or I would start him for growth purposes and give the other guy more minutes depending on where the initial ratings begin between te two players.

Depends on where the ratings lie. If it's 100 ath vs 80 ath, go with the A/A IQ at least for a little bit. If it's 80 vs 60, same thing (to me).

Basically, what I'm saying is, if both players are playable, I'd go with the higher IQ to start. But if the veteran big won't cut it against the competition you're playing, then obviously bite the bullet and go with the youngin

somewhat relevant, had an ongoing discussion re: practice minutes - more valuable to put them into attributes or iq? a HOF coach who for many, many seasons has stressed iq over ratings, just recently switched over (instead of 25/25, he's now using 20/20 with balance put into attributes). its worth noting that playing time increases IQ, but only practice time increases attributes*...so if you're thinking about the course of a season, rather than game-by-game decisions, this might factor in.

* yes, pt increases we, which increases BOTH IQ and attributes

EDIT: SEE POSTS BELOW REGARDING IMPACT OF PT ON ATTRIBUTE PERFORMANCE!

PT increases the rate which your players develop. Just compare your FR that's RS against FR not RSed.

I'm not positive about playing time affecting IQ.

Should I be putting minutes into IQ to get them to A+ before I am trying to maximize their own ratings?

don't know that the rs is a good example of not getting pt affecting improvement - rs is a unique situation. i'm not saying you're wrong, i just haven't seen anything supporting it. pt affecting iq is from a dev chat (though this is pretty old, and info might be stale):

will having a team full guys(lets say 10) with A IQ's help a freshman learn the offense faster? (Fregoe - Hall of Famer - 2:51 PM)

No, the only factors that go into IQ improvement once they get to college are playing time, starts, work ethic, practice time and their intelligence.

FYI for anyone interested, it appears that, if nothing's changed, pt does impact attribute performance (from http://whatifsports.com/devchat/devchat.asp?chatid=68):

Earlier you said something about single digit ratings being able to see large improvements. How has adding potential made these rating possible to grow now? (elmossle - Hall of Famer - 3:25 PM)

How skills improve will be changing with the addition of potential so now it will be possible to see low skills show significant improvement over 4 years based on the player's potential, work ethic, practice time and playing time.
