What is the criteria for the HOF?  This world started when the player was 30 years old.  He was obviously the best hitter in the world and would have been for the previous 5 years.  However, with his career being cut short just because of the world cycle will that be held against him in HOF voting?

Most likely, yes.

Almost certainly. I tend to vote for guys who dominated during the first five or six seasons of a world's existence, but in my experience they never get anywhere close to enough votes. That guy was one amazing 2B though.

The owners vote.  You'd probably be better off making his case in the WC when the time comes.

His cumulative stats will almost certainly be held against him, even though its not his fault.  But if I were in that world, his 3 MVP awards would be enough to sway me.

On the other hand though, he looks like a serial killer.  Roberto Alomar had to wait a year because he once spat on an umpire. I can't imagine the voters having any sympathy for a guy with a van full of dead prostitutes.

Riggan was mine during the first 4 years. 3 MVPs.

I tend to look at awards initially. 3 MVPs, 6 All Star Teams, 5 Silver Sluggers, .455 career OBP and .345 career average. Hopefully he doesnt hang around too much longer. He's 37 now and is still better than average. By next season he wont be very good at his current rate of decline.

Even for a player that enjoyed a full career, that is a hall of fame worthy trophy case. Riggan was legendary those first few seasons. If a good # of those original owners are still around when he is eligible, I think he gets in. If not, I'll have to do some heavy campaigning.

My world had a similar situation where at the beginning of the world there was a clear cut guy who was the league's best all-around player (in our case a monster hitting SS) who also won the first three MVP awards. He was able to get elected when the HOF started in Season 11 with 22 votes. Of course he had the benefit of the HOF being the shiny new toy and the fact that almost all of the league had been around when he was great.
Your guy is clearly deserving of induction, even if he was hit by a bus today.

my experiences tell me that most worlds are apathetic to the HoF to begin with.  It also tells me that its apathetic towards players who were well established when the world began and don't take much consideration for any sort of projected stats for the 4-5 seasons prior to world creation that you may assume the player would have had.  However, that guy has as good a case for early world domination as I've seen.  Sell it in the WC, I'd buy in pretty easily.  A 3x MVP would generally get my vote regardless, but certainly in this case where the guy may have had 2-3 more MVPs if he was 25 when the world was generated.  He won't have the power this season, but the average & OBP should still be strong and the power won't be none existant.  Put him at 1b and you might get a gold glove out of him.

Also, he will likely be the first real legitimate candidate for the Hall, so he wont be coming up for nomination at the same time as dozens of others are. Im certain he will get in fairly easily. This is a good, attentive world. Weve never had a trade get through that violated salary (even by a few $). That said he probably wont retire for at least 2 more seasons. He is under contract for next season. Assuming he retires the following season, we're looking at almost a full calendar year before he's eligible.

Agree w/ Taz.  Sell him in WC.  To me, he's a shoe-in, but I like the guy that has 5 dominant seasons over the guy with 10 good ones.

Sell the hardware, ignore the cumulative stats unless it's brought up by an opponent of his induction.  3 MVPs would have my vote, done and over with.  Argue towards voters like myself.  My $0.02

Well, Riggan got in...
