Would You Sign This Guy as a DI SF? Topic

I am trying to decide whether to sign a guy as a SF or just keep the spot open to get more money for next season. I am a C- prestige at DI and this is my only open scholarship.

Here are his stats:

ATH   55 (High High)
SPD   50 (High High)
REB   15 (Low)
DEF   70 (Low)
SB      5  (Avg)
LP      45 (High High)
PER   80 (Low)
BH     40 (Avg)
PAS   45 (Low)

I am intrigued by the LP/PER ratings and the High Highs in ATH and Speed. I see him as a project, but am not sure whether to sign him or just keep the scholarship open so that I can throw the extra cash at my 5 open spots next year.

Thoughts?

The REB will kill you at the 3 and his BH/PASS aren't really shooting guard worthy.  If you aren't worried about rebounding I would give it a shot but you better have some 90's in the REB in the front court and a guard or two that can help.

Yes, assuming his WE is reasonable.

Yup, but like mbalding - that WE has to be ok so he can achieve reach those high potentials (you need them for him to be good).  I don't think is playable as a freshman really.   His reb isn't great, but you can coach around that a bit.

I wouldn't make him my top prospect or anything. I'd prefer if he didn't have to start - he'd be a good to great backup, assuming he gets to his ceiling in those HHs like others have said. I wish his defense had even average potential...

See if you can inform him of redshirt and keep him considering you.  A RS season would really help that guy.

Thanks for the input. I forgot to include the WE, but thought it was fairly high. I went back and looked and it is 13. So, he will not be getting a scholarship from me. Despite that, the comments were extremely helpful to me for future recruiting.

If WE isn't 13, this guy is pretty good. High high ath/spd is awesome to have, with him guaranteed to be 80+ ath, high 70s spd, and probably much higher.

Probably not.  High-high ATH and SPD tend to be at the very low end of high-high.  In fact, in about a total of 24 or 25 cases that I can remember of actually seeing high-highs in one my recruits in these crucial categories only one has eclipsed 36 points of growth (in speed, that guy grew by 37).  High-high ATH is usually 28-30, speed might be low 30s but very rarely more than that.

You guys would really play a SF with a 15 REB at DI?  I thought that would be a deal breaker....

With that kind of athleticism he'll grab about 2 boards a game anyway.  I'm happy to give up rebounding for a potentially great 2-way SF at any level as long as the bigs are good enough rebounders....

80 ath
75 spd
70 def
80 lp
80 per

That guy is certainly playable by his RS junior year, even with 15 reb.

I would without question play that guy as a SF in a pressing defense. Probably M2M too. (assuming a better WE)

That guy could play at a mid major and start nevermind the CAA. Like dac said he could be a good back up and I think that could be at a low big 6 school.
