Off Season Improvements Topic

I would love to have an idea as to how this works.  For the first time I tried tracking where players were at prior and after the offseason and I just as confused as ever.

Example:  Junior PG  -  637 (end of season)  647 (start of new season)

At the end of his junior year all ratings were in the red except for Work Ethic which was black.  In the offseason I put 20's on Perimeter and Ball Handling and 5 towards passing.  All improved by 2 in the offseason.  I had a 3 on rebounding and that went up 1.  I had 8 on conditioning and his stamina went up 2.  There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to what improves in the offseason and/or by how much.  At least on categories that have maxed out.

Would it do me any good to put all the reds at 0 except for the one I really want to improve on and give that one a 50 or something?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Your practice plan has no bearing on offseason improvement. Offseason improvement is highly a function of the players WE.

Good to know.  Thanks!

if all his ratings are red, none are going to move much - no matter how many mins

in general, 50 mins will do a lot less good on one skill than split among 2 or 3 - of course, if you have one black and the rest red it could make sense

Or if its something you just REALLY need;  for example, if you are short on perimeter shooting and one guy has a high high in perimeter shooting, you might load up on it to get him to the point where he can comfortably start shooting threes, or of you are really short on rebounding, you might sacrifice some immediate gratification in other categories to get that one guy's high rebounding potential into play sooner for this year.

I totally understand that most people think you waste minutes anywhere over 20 or 25.  I guess i was wondering if it mattered during the off season or not.  My understanding is that they way you spread out the minutes during the off season means nothing.

How about this, if you are in the red in all categories would it be better to load up a huge number on something with a really low rating (below 20), something with a really high rating (over 70) or doesn't it matter?

Well. I would probably try loading up on a core attribute until I got the message that there was nothing else to be gained:  because a red category COULD still have up to 6.99 points of improvement left in it.

point 1: you are correct, your pp means nothing during offseason.

point 2: if you are talking about the offseason it doesn't matter. if you are talking about in season, see posts above - i.e., it doesn't matter how high or low the red rating is, all that matters is whether there is any potential growth left in that rating; if not, all the practice minutes in the world won't help. see, e.g., shaq's ft shooting. :)
