Pinpoint Draft picks 1 per round Topic

I would love to see a drop down box in the draft section where you could choice a specific player(one per round, no compensation pinpoints) that you would like to draft. If they are avaliable in that round. The reason, I wanted to draft a catcher just for defense, but i couldnt rank him too high on my draft board because i didnt want to miss the oppurtunity to take someone else in the early rounds. I wanted to draft him in the 17th round if he was avaliable. It is impossible given the current tools to make sure I could have drafted him in the 17th and not earlier. Also by ranking him low I may miss him altogether.

17th round seems a little low.... Do you honestly get that thorough? Good for you if you do, but this seems somewhat impractical. You rank your board in the order you want them. So, theoretically, if he were still on the board, you'd get him, provided you yourself hadn't said there was someone else better than him still available.

Defensive catchers usually have a default ranking somewhere around #300.  If I move one or two of them up to #100, I almost always get one around the 10th round.

You're lucky to get a potential MLer from the 6th round on, so who cares if you draft your minor league defensive catcher in the 10th or 17th?

Its not about getting ML talent after the 6th round. I have found that if I plug certain players into spots in teh minors it helps my actual ML prospects ratings a little more as they come up through the minors. So there are players that I want to draft i.e. base stealers, defensive with no bat, catchers with outrageous pitch calling so on and so on to fit my minor league needs. I try to keep my minor league teams winning so that my ML prospect dont experience a huge drop off in talent/winning as they get promoted from one level to the next. I just dont see the harm in tweaking the draft with one drop down box!?!

Well it's actually probably a significant overhaul.  I don't see how you couldn't use the current system to ensure you drafted that C at some point.  17th round, 10th round, 20th round...you either get him or you don't, right?  Rank him by value among the other players you have ranked and set your position targets correctly and you should be happy with the results.

The point is, as long as you don't put him ahead of any actual minor league talent, why does it matter that you wait until the 17th round?  Who are you drafting in say, rounds 5-16 that it's so important that you not pass up on to get him.  If you're as thorough with your rankings as you appear to be, acquiring the types of players you want is really easy.

I don't get it. I just rank players in the order I value them. I don't know whether I'll get my 40th most valuable prospect in the 5th round or 15th or 17th or at all, but I do know that I don't want him until #'s 1-39 are off the board.
