Minor League contract, can't assign him to minors? Topic

Claimed a player off the waiver wire: he has 4 years pro, zero years ML, 3x options. His profile says he has a "MILB" contract this season. When I try to assign him to AAA, I get an error telling me I have to assign him to the ML "due to his current contract and option status".  He _has_ options, and there's no special clauses in his contract. What am I missing?

OK, I am still missing something.  Can you tell me the connection between Rule 5 and claiming him off waivers after he's been offered back?  Thanks.

If you claim him off waivers, he's still got Rule 5 status.

He will only lose his R5 status (a) if he clears waivers and is refused back by his original team, or (b) at the end of the season.
