Need some help... Am I leading or not? Topic

To me this message seems like you would be pretty much even with the other school. Especially if the last email indicated you were behind.

As far as I know you only get a new scholly email when the lead changes.  So if you are sure that you were behind with the last scholly email, than this one should mean that you are in the lead.

That being said I think that you are ahead but it is really, really close.

This is the response I got at 11am - "Coach, I just can't say yes right now...I'm still supposed to take a campus visit of another school. I should know more after that." This one is clearly telling me Im behind so if its true that I wouldnt get another scholly email unless something changed then I guess I'd be ahead now. *fingers crossed*
I'm not sure that's the case, so if you have more money, I'd spend it.    I've had instances where I was clearly behind based on an e-mail and the word on the street said "definitely leaning toward playing at" the other school.  I'd spend more money and get a new e-mail that sounded better but was still behind, and the word on the street changed to "struggling between".  I was definitely still behind, but had closed the gap and got a new e-mail, so it's possible you've simply narrowed his lead without passing.    My rule of thumb is always, if you can't tell if you are ahead or behind, assume you are behind.

Often a phone call will give you a clearer response in a tight battle such as "I'd give you a slight edge right now" etc. The scholie messages in close races acn get pretty cryptic.

I thought scholarship messages were the only ones that meant anything.  Have I been playing this wrong all this time?

Dont think you are correct about the phone call

I posted a similar post a few months back. Someone (Iguana?) suggested I keep track of my messages and keep them instead of deleting them. I have tried to follow this closer since then.
Maybe I am mistaken and it was simply a new scholie message, but from last cycle in Rupp:

2pm signing day: Coach, I really appreciate you having enough faith in me to extend me a scholarship offer. I hope that you have enough faith to wait for me to visit some other schools - they really have made their programs sound great and to be honest, I'm not sure where I'll be next year.

John Graham

That sounded vague and he didn't sign with the other recruits when signings started . I was in another battle and I had a bunch left over so I started putting a bunch of hvs and a phone call in most cycles. I also dropped some pt.

11pm cycle after signings: It would be an honor to play for you at St. Louis, but I'd also be honored to play for a couple of other schools too. I'm sorry, I just need more time.

John Graham------------------still very vague to me.

5PM next day, no new scholie messages in between, after a phone call: I am so excited to hear from St. Louis! I have great respect for your program. You're tops on my list right now.

John Graham

He signed at 11pm that day.

Maybe I just deleted a scholarship message, or perhaps the last post IS actually a scholie message, but most scholies are titled something other than "touching base".

mully you may be totally right with this, but I have lost a couple of good recruits I thought I was leading for because I couldn't understand the message. I'm just starting to get a better idea of it now.

I really don't understand all the confusion over these messages. When you take the lead you get a message that says something like "Why can't I sign today" or "If this was a race you'd be winning". All of the other messages mean you are behind and need to spend more money.

I think because deep down we know this is true, but don't always HAVE more money.  So we hope.
