How do I recruit better? Topic

The D2 school I've been at for a few seasons now is at a B- prestige. A new coach picked up one of the Sim teams that hasn't been owned in a long time and has a C prestige. Recruiting starts, and there's a low D1 player 170 miles from me and 60 miles from the other school, and becomes interested in the other school almost immediately. However, I have spent ~$3k and no visible progress.

Any idea how this new coach did this? Is the distance really that big of a deal? Any advice on where to go with the recruit?

~$3k often isn't enough to win a battle at the D3 level, so I see no reason why you can expect it to succeed at the D2 level where people have more money to throw around.

steuarjd... I think I am having the same problem

New to this so take it for what it is worth, but I am starting to adopt an attitude of "go big or go home" with recruiting guys-- Spent 4500 on a guy this go around and didn't get him at D3 so will look back to see what the vets say, but next year, I am picking one guy and blowing most of my wad on him and will then go after other guys late in the draft as some seem to come cheaply then.  Good luck to us both

This may be a dumb question, but you guys are using scouting visits right?

You don't need to use scouting visits if he is already talking to you and not listing you as a backup. I have had at least 4 home visits and a campus visit and I still can't crack the considering list... Most guys it takes a scholly offer and a home visit and they consider you.

What I was trying to ask was if you guys first sent a phone call to see if you were a backup option or not. If you are, it will take 10+ scouting visits to pull him down. If he flat out rejects you, then you have no shot at signing him no matter how much you spend. Sometimes a player will be open to recruiting right away (ex: if he's within 70 miles) so you can proceed with HV's and CV's.

But you guys probably know that already.

Yes, he was open to being recruited. I always send a phone call before, that is an easy way to get burned!

Closer to 4k now. Still telling me I'm a backup. I have sent many scouting visits, he has rejected home visits.

do you mind copying and pasting your recruiting effort so we can see exactly what you did? Seems strange to not even be on a list if you did everything right and he showed interest in you after the initial phone call.

Maybe wait until recruiting is over if you don't want to show details at the moment.

if he is still saying backup you are wasting time with HVs or CVs. Use scouting trips (anywhere from 10 - 35) to pull him down.

If you are a backup the only effort he will take is scouting trips.

The other team pulled him down meaning he sent a bunch of scouting trips and a scholarship

If you did anything but that you will not show up on his list until he drops to you (if he does) at a later time

to answer the first question, since he is within the magical 70 mile zone for coach2 he may have been open to normal effort for that coach, while you have to pull him down first. It is harder to pull someone down (IMHO) when they are already considering another school (but I don't have a lot of evidence to back that up)

This is a very good point too, when a player is that close sometimes you don't even have to pull him down he will just be open to your effort from the start.  It typically is not worth trying to pull a player down already considering another human coach as it will take ALOT of money to win that normally.

Some cases it can be worth it but as you are seeing now, you have dropped 4k and not even shown up on a list, let alone pulled ahead in a battle. Imagine how much money it will take to actually win
