Eight Man Rotation Topic

Is it possible to have success in this game playing only eight guys?  Obviously in real life teams go with even smaller rotations all the time but I haven't really seen anyone doing it here.  I'm forced to try this season with my Oklahoma State team in Naismith.

Not if someone uptempo's you.  I play 9 pretty regularly and still struggle against he uptempo

you also play fcp. I have seen teams run 6 deep in zone and go deep in the nt, and teams go 8 deep in d1 and make the e8.

You would have to have really high stamina players to be able to be effective.

I am talking about my slow down, man/triangle team.

You can really play 6 guys without being so fatigued it kills you?

I'd like to see that, are their stamina's in the 90's?

There was a zone team in Phelan D3 a while back, human owner abandoned it. Sim ran it with 7 players, 6 players played close to 40min, 7th guy only comes in with the other players foul out. Team went to the E8; 1 of the big had stamina in the low 70s, and another player had stamina in the mid 70s.

Zone slowdown (assuming you are not running fb) can run with a 7 man roster.

Is there an offensive equivalent of zone?

doesn't even need to be zone imo. BYU in Tark is running 8 right now, and I think they ran 8 last season too:

Minutes-wise it's really not that unreasonable to run 8-deep if you can get the rotations right.

Why is no one going up tempo on the  BYU team?

Absolutely.  If the back ups can play multiple positions well or you have versatile starters.   You'll need to play normal and slowdown most games.

It's not ideal, obviously, but I ran 8-deep at NC State (tri/man) and made the Sweet 16 a few seasons ago. Do 9 on the regular if I have to. As long as you're not running FB or Press, you can do it. Slowdown pretty much all the time, set guys to Getting Tired (or if you have a real weak backup somewhere, Tired).

Good luck.

Georgia Tech ran a M2M with a seven man rotation in Tark last season.  Made it to the Sweet Sixteen.  Finished 23-7.

Because  I have 5 freshmen, and want to win this season, I'm doing a primarily 8-player rotation at Vanderbilt (crum) - it's going OK enough for us so far.

I actually think that at D-1, 8 and 9 man rotations are becoming close to the norm at BCS schools.
