Too Many Letters Topic

This is my first time recruiting in DI and not sure if it is specific to DI or not but can you send too many letters to a recruit? By this I mean the last two recruiting periods the player I am recruiting told me: I'm not even opening the letters anymore (kinda passive, not sure if I should stop) and then again replied: Coach, seriously, enough with the letters already. I got it. (much more aggressive this time and got the hint that probably should stop). So I guess my question is can your recruits get angry and sending materials actually work against you. This just befuddled me as I have never had this problem before in all my seasons recruiting as usually I like to send a couple phone calls and send a couple materials to make sure and confirm the recruits I am still interested but in cruise control and no use in sending home visits or campus visits.
Any thoughts or past experiences would be greatly appreciated.

A long time ago coaches used to use phone calls/letters as a recruiting loophole to bring in players from long distance. WIS closed that loophole by putting a cap on the number of letters and phone calls a coach could use before the player got upset and the effort turned into a negative. I think the limit is around 40 but I'm not sure.

Okay I can completely understand that, but then I have another problem with that, as to my knowledge I was always under the impression that you should contract your recruit every recruiting period or every 3 hours w/e you want to call it, because if you didn't they start to lose interest in your program and become easily sustainable to being poached. I always just used those tactics because they were the least amount of money and if there is a cap and they actually become a negative then how should I proceed in recruiting w/o spending a whole bunch of money, because in my eyes it would either be let them lose interest in not contacting them or irritating them by contacting them.
Again thanks for any thoughts on this matter.

Once again a long time ago there was a setting in the game engine that triggered once a coach had not contacted a player within 5 recruiting cycles. That has been removed and there is no requirement or penalty for not contacting a recruit at all once he is considering you. He will not lose interest unless another school moves in on him. After I have a player considering me and I feel secure that no one else is likely to pounce on him, I still send one phone call per cycle just to keep in touch. I know I don't have to but old habits die hard.

Yeah, a recruit won't lose interest.  I've had many recruits that I've gotten to consider me after the first cycle that eventually signed without ever having to contact again.

So does FSS remain the same? Or will the messages become more like he's not 100% sold if you don't contact? I've noticed that I have started out at the favorite right now message but after not contacting the recruit the message changes to he's not sold. Is this an effect of other competition for the recruit or is it due to lack of contact?

The messages that say "****is the favorite, for now" and the one saying "hes not 100% sold" both mean exactly the same thing. It means that he is considering that school but that they put in the bare minimum effort to get him to consider them.

So if a recruit were to get the "tight" message it wouldn't change unless some other coach stepped in on the recruit? I've seen at least 2 variations of the tight message so I am assuming they are the same as well?
