HBD would be a much better place if new owners were not allowed to trade until they had a few seasons of experience.

I know that it's a big selling point that you can "trade like a GM", but too many owners come into this game and think it's Fantasy Baseball, just to get gang raped by veteran owners, get disillusioned, and quit.

I think it would help improve customer retention if WIS curbed trading for first time owners, or heavily scaled it back so these well-intentioned new owners could stop destroying the franchises and moving on.

The n00b owners can get help from a mentor to help evaluate players.  If it's a solid world, the other 30 owners should be able to prevent n00b-rape trades.

But to take away one of the tools to help an owner run his team seems a bit shortsighted to me.

I would never have joined HBD if this was a feature. I joined for roster management, specifically trading.

They can ask, but they don't ask - not until they've already made the mistakes.  And they don't join solid worlds until they have experience - they join bad worlds.  And then they don't get the experience, because they get disillusioned with the game and don't want to sink more money into losing.

Maybe taking away trades completely isn't the best idea - but the current system isn't good for the long-term health of the game.

Maybe for 0 years experienced owners the commish or a trade committee could be formed that would have veto power instead of requiring 10 votes.

Their $24.95 should give them access to all the same features that your $24.95 or my $24.95 gives us.

If you buy a chainsaw, and you've never used one before, wouldn't you feel a bit cheated if you were told that the first couple of times you use it, it won't have the chain attached?

As with many things in life, there's going to be a learning curve when you try something new.  There are resources available for n00b owners to get some help.  If they choose not to use them . . . . that's on them.

I've suggested to WIS in the past that whenver a brand new user signs up for his first HBD team, that he be sent a sitemail informing them of the mentor program.  Maybe I should suggest that again.

That email suggestion is a good one tec. When I'm recruiting for the world I commish, I tell any newb who inquires about a team that I suggest they get a mentor or three. The most common response I get is, "Oh, I didn't know they even had a mentor program."
