Practice Bodies? Topic

I remember a while back there was some sort of rule that, if you didn't have 10 scholarship players, your players would improve in a practice at a slower rate than had you had 10. My questions are (#1) does this still exist and (2) would a redshirt player count towards that 10 or do they have to be active? thanks

I don't know if the rule still stands but redshirts counted towards your 10 players

the rule exists, but CS tells me the effect is minor

That chair in the paint is a heck of a defender tho, never gets called for a reach in or blocking foul

The effect is miniscule, and I would go so far as to say that, at least at lower divisions, it's not even worth worrying about in the grander scheme of things. Case in point -- in Naismith, my full roster to date this season has averaged 41 points of improvement per man. The guy saddled with five walk-ons in my division has seen 40 points of improvement, on average, for his seven scholarship players (the walk-ons aren't improving rapidly, but they also aren't playing that much). One of the top D3 teams in Rupp last season carried 3 walk ons and it clearly didn't effect his development during the season as he made either the Final Four or the Elite Eight.

The increased playing time should more than compensate for the small practice penalty.

i thought the penalty was to iq practice and not individual improvement.  can anyone confirm or deny this or is so minor it does not matter?

Here is the best example I can give you:

Put your fist into a bucket of water. When you remove your fist, the size of a hole you leave is equivalent to the effect it has.

"I tried that, but when I removed my fist I didn't see a hole..... so I don't get it."

On the 7 schollie/5 walk-on program I cited previously, the five freshmen on scholarship are all at B- for IQ. The two sophs (who have been part of a similar setup for both of their seasons are sitting on B+ for offensive IQ while the defensive IQs are B+ and A-, so definitely not a major impact in IQ progression. It's a human-managed team, so it isn't a case of Sim AI getting different treatment than a human or something.

This about sums it up.
