I sat him out in preseason game 1, redshirted him his w/e dropped 30. Sat him out preseason game 2 tried it again his work ethic went down 40 this time. Sat him out of the 1st game of the season and his work ethic dropped about 50 this time. Is there anyway I can pull this off or its not gonna happen?

You can keep trying, but at this point it doesn't look all that likely...  You don't need to wait for a game, incidentally - RS's are processed every 3 hours, same times as recruiting cycles.
