How do they select for NT? Topic

Beyond the projection report...how do they select for National tournament.  I'm perplexed by my numbers and the second time in 3 seasons that my team has made the Ominous Last Four Out...Last time I understood, my RPI was high 50's or low 60's, this time 32.

Speaking on this point, can someone explain how my 32 RPI 51 SOS Air Force team didn't make NT.  We made it to CT championship game and beat the #12 team in the country in our tournament.  We were 1-3 vs. Top 25 when we played them during the season.  We went 3-1 against teams that made NT in non-conference.  We went 2-5 against the other NT teams from our conference.  We finished 5-8 against teams with RPI in top 100.

did alot of unexpected teams win their conference tournaments?

You did have 0 - 6 against top fifty.

Not sure what top 50 you are looking at, because I count 2-5 against top 50, beat BYU who was ranked 12th in country and San Diego St.

My biggest arguments would be E. Tennessee St. and Tennessee, Chattanooga, look at there SOS and RPI compared to mine.

I did miss byu,  forgot to look at the CT ... and when I looked at it, San Diego state was 51, and moved to 49 since.

E tennessee St. and Tennessee Chattanooga were 2-3 adn 1-3 verse top 50 and the rest of their schedules blew  (most of their top 50 was inconference and 2 were against each other and they split) and the highest top 50 of those teams was a 39.  I played 2 Texas and beat 12 rank, 20 RPI BYU.

Both UTC and ETST had more road games, better road records.  Both only lost 1 home game compared to your 3.

Looks like their conference was tougher than the MWC as well, with an avg RPI of 127.8 compared to 143.8 for the MWC.  And in which they had better conference records, each only losing 2 games compared to your 5 conference losses.

I'd say your out of conference schedule makes up for that though, especially your game against Texas... so I assume all 3 of you are very close in the projection report.

Looks like ETST is still playing too, upsetting Baylor in the first round.
