I've always been interested if there's any connection between the HD jobs that Coaches have and their real-life loyalties. I know some Coaches want to coach their alma mater, and that would indeed be a sweet HD gig. In my case I took the Oberlin [Knight]  job mainly  because it was in my home state of Ohio. If I had to start all over again I'd want these jobs-of course one of my D1 dream jobs is just that-a dream, lol.

DIII: Otterbein [20 minutes away from where I live in Ohio. Held it for many Seasons in Phelan]
Bethany [Huge WV sports fan, all divisions]
DII: Fairmont State [WV-this would be my ultimate DII spot and it's been open more often than filled.]
       West Virginia Wesleyan [WV]
       Shepherd [WV]
Wheeling Jesuit [WV-coached there in Phelan and left for DI-mistake]
DI: Marshall [WV...after my E8 appearance I'm qualified for this spot]
West Virginia University [This would be my ultimate DI spot, but I've tried D1 in Phelan and, uh, no thanks. It's also my alma mater as well.]
      Toledo [Wife's alma mater]

As you can see, my real-life loyalites play a huge part of where I do [and would] coach. I follow West Virginia colleges, all divisions, so it fits that I would love any of these jobs.

So, why are you where you're at?

I started the game at Maine-Presque Isle because it was a place that I've always wanted to visit...but coaching there in WIS is cheaper than traveling so I went that route. When I moved up to D2 in that world, I grabbed Missouri-St. Louis because a kid from the local JUCO whose game I liked had just signed there, so that was the tiebreak vote between UMSL and whoever I'd been considering alongside them.

I grabbed Wooster in Iba because I wanted to coach my alma mater and relive all those great times in the stands as part of the student body. At some point, I might grab Wooster in another world and try to follow my entire academic career from Wooster to Central Missouri to Nebraska for the heck of it.

My other two teams I just grabbed because they were in full/mostly full conferences with people that I knew to be solid coaches and fun people to interact with via coaches chat and the boards.

At d3 and d2 I could care less just a good team is all I care about. At d1 I want teams I like. Which would be 1. Bowling Green (I live there) 2. Villanova (My favorite basketball team) 3. A team that is a good mid major in real life in basketball. But I take what team I would rather have in real life into consideration.

In Allen - I'm at Findlay because I wanted a team in Ohio after leaving Wooster (funny have two things in common with two posters lol) and had hopes of one day obtaining UC or Ohio State ... ended up enjoying DII and Findlay as well as the coaches I play against and have stayed put and probably will forevuurrr in Allen.  Plus, even though I know it's not true, there are people in my family on the "FIndley" side who seriously lay claim that our ancestors founded Findlay Ohio, but the name is different and I think their nuts - but for the fun of it, I own Findlay in this world and people bow and worship my program there. :P

In Rupp - it was a Test world for me and I joined Concord to play against Coach BillyG - then decided to try out DI which I didn't enjoy too much with Toledo, did pretty well but DI not for me.  Saw AlBlack and some other coaches I recognized and also used to play against at Concord were at the Central Intercollegiant Athletic Association so decided to join the Union and Obliterate them year in and Year out from the get go, but my little plan exploded in my face --- perhaps next year I whip out my boom stick and rule the world with more starting Freshman!  (I say that jokingly, top notch competition there)

Iba - just joined due to wanting to test some zone crap, 1 and done there - and Rowan reminds me of Rohan so I'm riding my Nordic Horseman in the Basketball battle each night

hogstench-here's another of things in common-While my wife was at the Univ. of Toledo she spent a summer interning in Wooster and had to stay in housing on the Wooster campus.

My ideal track would be like this:

D3 Buffalo State (born in Buffalo)
D2 A Heartland team (love my West Florida team, even though they suck)
D1 Army
D1 Duke

My real track will go like this:
D3 Lakeland
D2 Clarion
D2 West Florida
.............. dead end.

don't really care at D2 or D3. Ultimately i'd love to coach my alma mater, UCLA...might be pretty hard to get...I'd settle for Long Beach State (I'm from long beach), San Diego St., Any solid DI with good recruiting areas would be great

I coach at Colorado mainly because my sister went there, and I thought that was cool.

As a Jersey kid, I have coached Rutgers University-Newark (DIII), Princeton and now Rutgers.  I might get fired from Rutgers, if I do I'll either try to go back to Princeton or Cornell (because I flunked out of there).

Not the worst thing you could do at Cornell.....

My dream jobs would go as follows:

D3: Alma College (MI)               Grew up in Michigan
D2: Northwood University (MI) Received an MBA from Northwood
D1: Central Michigan                 Undergrad
D1: University of Michigan        Would be cool

I coached at N.W. Missouri State (DII) in Allen. I live near N.W. and my parents and grandparents went there. My grandma played basketball and softball there. I live closer to arch rival Missouri Western but I like N.W. better.
I would like to coach at UNLV and Nebraska. They are my favorite schools.

D2: Grand Valley State University - Graduated with undergrad and MPA (I coached there a few years ago when I played HD, but haven't gotten back there since)
D1: University of Michigan - Have season tickets to football and basketball and my wife works there.
D1: I would be happy with most big 6 programs.

Ultimately for D3 I have tried to go to conferences that have some fun coaches.

I started my career at RIT coz I went to school there for 1 trimester (well, I was enrolled for 1 trimester - I didn't go to a lot of school). Most of my other career choices were just either for prestige or random, although this season I took a couple schools because their color banner was black and I thought it was cool. I took Livingstone once coz theirs was a teal color that is close to my son's favorite color. I took a KC area school once coz my gf is from KC. My dream j9ob is Syracuse, which, fuggitaboudit since A. it is never available and B. If it ever is available I cannot and apparently never will qualify for it...

If I were to hop back into HD, I'd want an IIAC team (from Iowa... that's why). Started out with Buena Vista in Knight which didn't go so well... went 3-24 the only season I was there and even though I wanted to try to build them up, decided it wasn't worth it (though, two seasons after I left, they won 26 games and went to the PIT. So I must have been doing something right. LOL), but anyway, D2 I don't really have a "dream job" there... I suppose maybe NW Missouri St. since my cousin went there... D1 would definitely be Northern Iowa and then maybe, eventually, Iowa.
