I was just wondering, never thought about this before. Is it ever possible to pull down a player that dropped to DII from DI, if you are a DIII school?

I'd be very shocked since not every player can be pulled down.  I'd be shocked if a Div 1 caliber player would allow to be pulled down to Div 3

Someone made the claim on these boards waaaaay back (possibly old engine) that he got a kid that started on his D1 screen to sign at D3. As I recall, the explanation was that the kid had been 10 miles from campus, extremely low overall rating for the D1 screen, dropped the first day to D2 and gave the backup message when contacted by phone, at which point the guy pulled him down.

There were many skeptics when the story was posted and I'm certainly not saying it can be done (in fact, I'd be floored if it could), but the claim HAS been made that if the stars all align properly it is possible.

this is a message i got from a d2 pulldown.  Overall, I think he's got what it takes to be a DII All-American before all is said and done. He could contribute at DI with a maybe a redshirt season under his belt.
I am not sure where he started but that message makes me think he could of been on the d1 list of a low level team.

i think for a while, a bug did allow d3 teams to recruit low end d1 players, but today, i do not think that is possible. note - that is d1 from the perspective of the team recruiting. d1 from the perspective of other teams is really not relevant. for example, players that start in d2 for d2 schools can often show in d1 for d1 schools - even BCS level d1 schools. but that has no bearing on how that player interacts with the d2 school.

My question would be, how would you know the guy started on the DI list?  If you are a DIII coach why would you be looking at a DI list in the first place?

cburton - that question is completely irrelevant to the forum thread...but just to appease your curiosity, let's say the d3 coach puts a 480 overall rating cap on what he's searching, and he searches "any division" and adds a 480 rated player to his watch list, among others. he then goes to look at each of the recruits individually and ' lo and behold - one of the recruits in a d1 player.

I guess I am not diligent enough in recruit searching.  I don't see why as a DIII coach I would set my search to all divisions.

And it is not an irrelevant question as the underlying question would be, how do we know if a guy was really on a DI search.
