Like many who play here, I've learned a TON browsing old threads. Like the secret menu at In N' Out Burgers (US Western burger joint) there are many basic team running skills that aren't mentioned in the Player's Guide. Learning the out of position spectrum. How to draft players out of position. How to set pitch counts. Not needing 700 PA from your bottom of the order hitters. Things like that.

I'd like to think there's a difference between asking the veterans to give up all their secrets and general basic advice to prevent newbies from having a miserable first season of growing pains. A basic strategy guide, easy to find (pinned to the top of the forum), would be a huge asset.

Right now is this forum there a several "bumped the old thread" posts. Instead of bumping, why not gather this stuff together? It's already written, just give it a handy place to live.

The most useful thread in the history of WiS is the AAA revealed thread, and they won't pin that, why do you think that is?  

Part of the challenge of the game is supposed to be the hard work and experience it takes to master the game.  If all the strategy was pinned on the front page it would be a simple short cut for newer players to be handed the information.   The harder you work and try to get better, the better you seem to get.  Looking at guys that are way more successful than I, I am sure that they put more time into analyzing strategy and data.  Read the WiS interview with elbirdo and you will understand why the guy is so freakin good.  

The long and the short is, you should be rewarded for digging through the forums to find knowledge.  

I've been on sites where there were more than a few pinned threads and it gets annoying. Every time you go there you have to jump over all those pinned threads.

As someone who would benefit greatly from having some of these tips 'n tricks threads pinned, I strongly advocate against it.  As Bilfert said, the work involved is part of the challenge, and in my mind, part of the fun.  That said, I've got a pretty good collection of favorite threads bookmarked now, and I try to bookmark any thread I come across that seems useful.  Still, there have been a bunch I've missed along the way that now I kick myself for not favorite-ing.  And my punishment is having to either wade through search results or simply losing that info.
