Interesting ST decline: Got a reason? Topic

I signed  DustySalmon as a FA late in  Spring Training.  I think he can help as a glove guy who has some pop and can play 7 positions.  He'll be on my bench, primarily, unless he finds a smoking bat.

Anyway, he's only 26, has a Makeup of 99 and a Patience of 86.........yet he still saw some decline during Spring Training.  He dropped 2 pts in Glove, 2 points in Arm Accuracy, 1 in contact, 1 in both splits and 2 in eye.

I'm not sure why.  It's all pretty minor and I signed him anyway.  But it seems an odd regression.  He played a bunch last year, for example.

I signed him late enough that he didn't get any ST appearances, could that be the reason for the decline?

Seems odd.

I'm pretty sure you've got to get a player into a min number of games and/or at bats to avoid a possible decline during ST.

One of the aspects of the game that doesn't make a whole lot of sense as far as modeling the real world. But it does result in more players being cycled through the game over the seasons. Borderline players loose ratings, so they need to be replaced with new borderline players.

No playing time during spring training can lead to a decline in ratings.

Players not signed before the 9th game(I think) of ST will take a hit.

That guy would be the starting 3B on about half my teams. Sigh.
