Starting Guards at SF Topic

I was just kind of curious as to the general consensus on this practice.  I lost two senior SF's after last season, so my options are to start a senior guard or some true freshman.  The guard will provide absolutely nothing in terms of rebounding and LP, but would be a good, quick outside shooter who may cause matchup problems.  I'm leaning towards starting the guard, thinking that my starting PF and C will be able to pick up some of the rebounding slack (97 & 86 REB).  Thanks for the help!

I've done it both ways.  One season, I even platooned a guard and SF until I reached a decision

However, I never start a true freshmen unless I promise during recruiting. Thus, I vote for your guard.

Depends on the core ratings before I could give you an answer. I would tend to say the SR because he is going to have better IQ's, but it always depends. I am starting a FR SF on my D2 Tampa Team over a JR SF because I think he is better.

If you have above-average/exceptional rebounding (which I would say you do for the two post positions) you can get away with it. I've used my SF slot as a "point forward" for distribution of the basketball with success. I've also used it as a "shooting guard B" position (although if I'm doing thing, I usually try to make sure the kid has at least a minor rebounding total...even if it's just in the teens, it matters some).

I would try it out in the exhibition season and make sure it doesn't create any glaring problems, but my gut feeling would be, as gvsujulius said, that the benefit you get from the SR guard's IQ will more than make up for the learning curve and overall lower ratings the freshman SF would likely saddle you with.

I'd go Weaver-Syed-Mark with your two bigs

id start the guard if for no reason other than IQ....

if he grabs 2 boards a game you'll be happy.
