Big Recruiting Problem with 2:00 p.m. Tark Cycle.. Topic

I go into recruiting and two recruits I was leading or right there on and both signed with other teams...

Recruit #1:

2:00 p.m. first e-mail

"Listen coach, I feel good about Jeffrey Stark. I wouldn't say he's a sure thing, but I like our chances."

2:00 p.m. second e-mail

"Coach, you're too late. I've already signed with another school. Thought you would have heard by now."

His Last FSS from 2:00 yesterday was that he was leaning towards playing for me... then we don't have a morning FSS update and this happens?

Recruit #2:

8:00 a.m. e-mail "Coach, just wanted to say thanks for the call. Everything you said sounded really good about the school and the program. From what I know so far, looks like it could be a GREAT fit!"

2:00 p.m. e-mail #1 I just got off the phone with Rich Adams and his mother. I think we have him convinced, but his mom may need a little more work. There has to be something we can do to convince her!

2:00 p.m. e-mail #2 Awesome! I was so happy to get a letter from you. Nebraska Wesleyan is a great school with a great program. Obviously, Nebraska Wesleyan seems like it could be a good fit for me, what else should I know?

2:00 p.m. e-mail #3 Coach, you're too late. I've already signed with another school. Thought you would have heard by now.

The "Scholarship" messages are the only ones that matter; the rest are just window dressing, to be ignored.

What did the last scholarship message (before he signed) say?

Recruit #1:
5/29 5:00 a.m. Reply to Scholarship offer: Hey Coach, I really love your program, but I feel like I need to give each program my full attention before I make my decision. I can't say yes right now. Sorry.

5/29 11:00 p.m Reply to PT guarantee "PT from you to me = LOI from me to you. I'm good at math."

5/30 2:00 a.m. It was good to hear from you coach! You've painted a great picture of Nebraska Wesleyan that I can see myself being a part of.

I was waiting for the 2:00 a.m. FSS to let me know where I was at... apparently that really screwed me. My team just went from NC contender to an also-ran.

5/30/2012 2:38 PM

So Tuesday morning you got a scholarhsip message that you were behind.

Tuesday afternoon FSS said you were leading, but you never got a scholarship message saying you were leading?

No other scholarship messages?

5/30/2012 2:53 PM
correct
5/30/2012 3:23 PM

My translation of what you put is that you were not leading.... you were down, not by very much

I don't see any ahead scholarship messages in there either...  I think misinterpretation on your part may have been the real issue...
5/30/2012 3:42 PM
what exactly did the FSS say?
5/30/2012 3:44 PM
FSS said that he was definitely leaning at playing at NWU
5/30/2012 3:45 PM
send a ticket to seble. He'll look into it since the Phelan thing happened...at least you'll find out what happened..

Umm Julius, if one recruit is the difference between your team being a NT contender and an also-ran, his initials had better be JC, not JS.  Understood that you're upset about losing out on the guy, but that's being just a bit melodramatic, don't you think?  Especially if the kid was a freshman (just checked, he is).  As a couple of coaches posted earlier, the only e-mails that matter are the scholarship e-mails.  All the other ones are basically just fluff.

***Edit***  Just looked at the kid's potentials.  He's okay, but he's certainly NOT the difference between a title contender and an also-ran.  He'll be pretty good for D3, no doubt about that, but he's not the kind of player that would singlehandedly turn a program around, even at D3.  Sorry if this comes off as harsh, but it is what it is.

Sorry I wasn't referring to Stark as the difference, it was Rich Adams. Stark would have been a nice pickup, but now it looks like I will have two open spots so players won't progress as well either.

I agree I was real ****** when all this happened, I am still upset but I probably wouldn't have won the NC regardless lol

And it was Adams because he would balance my classes and get me another upperclassmen at a position I was weak at.

I will still be NT bound, but I hate wasting Manriquez's final year

Don't worry too much about the practice penalty Julius.  What you lose to the penalty will be more than made up for by the increased playing time.

Example, on my Duke team last season, I only had nine scholarship players.  Even with the practice "penalty", all three of my freshmen from last season still finished the year with at least a B- IQ.

As Emy said - Don't worry too much about the practice increases.  The difference between 1 and do isn't that great.  3 open spots is where the damage is really done.
