While your doing the minor tweaks to the logic right now, could you make a simple change on the Recruiting Summary page. Along the top of the page you can filter by name, position, position rank, rating, miles, location, etc, etc. Under location could you "please and thank you", switch it to filter alphabetically by state instead of city. It would make it tremendously easier to figure out scouting reports/FSS distance/miles/money issues.

im curious, not suggesting its a bad idea, what you use that for? i just don't use it and am wondering if theres an easy way to get out of some work, that i am missing :)

maybe he sorts by all recruits within XXX miles at a position(s) and wants to find out which states he should buy for FSS? This would be an easy way to quickly look at a list of 50 and say, "only 3 from NC, but 10 from NY, 10 KY, 10 from TN and 17 from WV" or whatever instead of "counting" them. Just throwing out a possible use for his idea.

That would be helpful for the exact purpose deer454 suggested. I currently do that by sorting by distance, so I am able to get what I need from the current setup, but actually sorting by state would be an improvement.

Yes the sorting by city is annoying and does very little for looking at a batch of recruits.

this would mean that I don't have to search for recruits less than 400 miles, then sort them by distance away descending and then tally the recruits from each state on an index card to determine which states have more potential recruits and which are best for FSS, right? Then I'm all for it...

All for it as well.  To look at it from the other perspective, why would anyone ever want to sort by city name?
