WIS IROC Competition Topic

Years ago there was a car racing competition called IROC, International Race Of Champions, in which these top drivers were alldrving the same cars on the same track under the same conditions.  This competition was supposed to eliminate the vagaries of pit and performance crews, and accentuate the true dreiving skills of the driver.

I was wondering if anyone had done a similar thing in WIS.  Give everyone the same team and the same ballparks and let the managers' abilities decide who was the best at managing.

We all know the consistent big winners and probably have lost to them many times.  I am wondering exactly why they win so much, as chance seems to play a big part of the game, as it should in any statistically oriented simulation.

Anybody have some thoughts?  Do you think anyone would join such a league, especially the consistent hall of famers?

They've been done, and they're regularly done with little twists. However, having run a few of my own 24 team leagues in which I set up all 24 teams identically (same lineup, rotation, ballpark, settings, etc...). The vagrancies of luck play too large a role in the sim to pull any real meaning from the purely identical leagues with just settings differentiating the teams. I might still have some of my stats floating around (and I've posted some of the examples before) that demonstrate the variable nature of luck in this kind of mathematical environment.

In order to attract players, there has to be some opportunity for owner influence - otherwise, it's completely random and not of interest to the majority of owners.  A while ago, I tried to get a league going where EVERYTHING was the same for all teams - players, settings, parks, everything - with the idea being that by investing ten bucks on a team we might get some insight into how Sparky 'thinks'.  It almost got going, but bogged down in the details.  It might be worth reviving after another update, though.

And I used to love the IROC - as I recall, it was a two-race competition, and the second race the owners swapped cars with the winner driving the car that finished last in the first race, etc., and then the results combined.

I've been a part of 2-3 of those type leagues. But each time the owners get to pick the players under certain commish set parameters. Salary constraints etc..

I would join another for sure....

That's where the IROC car came from - those were the cars used in the race.
