Redshirting a Senior Topic

I have two senior players at the same position.  Both are maxed out in ratings.

I redshirted one of them and his WE dropped to 1.   Any ramifications from leaving him there?   Could his skills drop a lot during his redshirt season?

I've done this a couple times - didn't pay too close attention but no dramatic drop... no real ramifications that I can tell.
