I don't have a lot of experience at these things recently, but here I am looking at a couple of recruits that have dropped/will talk to me.  Both are acting like this:

Scholly response:

Coach, I really appreciate you having enough faith in me to extend me a scholarship offer. I hope that you have enough faith to wait for me to visit some other schools - they really have made their programs sound great and to be honest, I need much more information before I can tell you yes or no.

Example call responses:

Good to hear from you coach! I've always had great respect for your school. I'm not sure how I would fit in there, but we can definitely talk more about it.

Example guaranteed minutes response:

Thanks Coach, but I'm not sure about this just yet. Maybe we can talk more about my role after I learn more about the program?

Are these the kind of recruits that won't sign for less than a HV?  Or can you get them with 50-60 calls, then minutes and a scholly?

Update: can $900 really not be enough for recruits that HAVE DROPPED?  This makes it really tough to sign nonlocals late.

I have never signed anyone unless I have sent a Scouting Trip OR a Promised Start.

Have you ever signed someone using just letters and phone calls?

Yeah, back in the day, a start and a call was enough.  I've logged four seasons at DIII total in the last calendar year and a half, though, that's the thing.  Really rusty.

Trenton, I'd be just fine offering starts, but these idiots won't take 'em.

I did when I first started playing HD. I didn't know anything. I was so nieve, I was spending recruiting $$$ on D1 players. LOL.

You can definitely still sign players with just a scholarship and a start.  You can actually sign them for just a scholarship in D3, I've done that before.  If it's a guy you don't really want to invest in but think would be a nice backup option in a pinch, you can offer the scholarship early and then just kinda forget about the guy (for recruits in your division of course).  If nobody else gets on the guy eventually the recruiting value of the scholarship will be enough to sign some guys.  I've done it before.
