It is my understanding that if a guy is placed on the 60 Day DL in MLB that a replacement player from the 40 man roster can be called up.  Having lost my top 2 pitchers in game 1 of the LCS, that would have been a nice option.  Injuries are part of the game.  Being shortstaffed doesn't have to be.

I believe that in MLB, teams can only change their playoff 25 man roster between series.  I know in 2006, the Tigers lost Sean Casey early in the ALCS and had to play the last 3 games of the ALCS with 24 players.  Fortunately, he recovered for the WS

The Rays Rocco Baldelli went on the DL during the world series and was replaced.  This wiki article supports that:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_League_Baseball_transactions

In Casey's case, they did not want to place him on the 60 day DL which would be a requirement to add a player.

Rocco Baldelli hit a HR in the final game of that World Series.  How could he if he was on the DL?

Having looked up a reliable source, I do agree that a player can be replaced if injured during a playoff series if he is replaced by a player of the similar position and he misses the following series

My bad for being lazy.  It was the 2010 ALDS.  Baldelli was replaced by Willy Aybar after game 1.
