He's asking for 3.3 hometown discount in his 4th year.  I acquired this guy though:

So, I was planning on playing Cordova against Right Handers and Wagner against Left Handers, Either one would be my defensive back-up on their day off.

Now I'm wondering if I should just try to Arb wagner for 1 more year than let him go his own way and start Cordova full-time. I can always get a cheaper defensive player on Free Agency rather than lavish Wagner with 3.3m .

What do you guys think? If I pay Wagner 3.3 a year he's only playing against left handers, and how many games would you summize that is? I also get a defensive utility guy though, that's why I'm considering it.

wagner last season vs. LHP

vs Lefties. hitting 283, 355 obp  .650 ops
but vs RHP he hit .207, .254 obp .487 ops

i mean vs lefties he's a dream short stop. and +8 plays -1 and .972 fielding at short stop full-time last year.

Cordova had +32 -0 plays in minors at short and about same fielding at .970.

So I guess 3.3 isn't worth it for a better bat vs. lefties at the same position, correct?

Wagner doesn't look like a 3.3 mil SS to me...I'd expect everyday play out of him. He's an awefully weak hitter in my eyes. Cordova isn't much better, but should give you consistency with his splits.  Better SS in my eyes

With SS, I primarily look for defensive ability.  I'd give the job to either one.  As for keeping both, that all depends on however many more true defensive SS there are available in your world.

Play Cordova.  $3.3M isn't to costly...and it doesn't look like you have any MIF help on the farm, beside Cordova, so sign Wagner as insurance and a late ining defensive replacement.

BTW, you had two absolute studs at AAA who should have come up last year, after the arb wait, I think.

Both Wade and Fernandez were totally ready.  You saved a year, kind of....but since both of those guys are going to be with you for 10 years (or should) it didn't make that much difference.

Wade is going to be a .290-.340-540 GG 3B, and Francisco will do something like .280-.370-.530...and he's a better than decent defensive catcher...and he can catch 150+ games a year.

I think I may try to win an arb against Wagner for like 2.4 mil, that'll give me 1 more year and he can be my defensive replacement, and play SS against lefties. Then I'll just let him go. Good call on checking out my world's defensive availabilities because I think it's thin. I may have to sign wagner next season after all, hmm.

Regarding Wade and Fernandez, I'm going to bring them up this year but I'm supposed to wait 20 games right.

If your world is thin on defensive SSs, why would you risk sending a defensive SS packing over $1M? Beating him at arb would be great if you knew you could replace him with another strong glove.

I'd sign him and then trade him to someone who can recognize his value and cough up a decent prospect.

Honestly, I would rather have a SS that gets me about 30+ plays per year and 0 - plays. I currently have  a guy on one of my teams that has 204 + plays and 4 - plays and he hits in over 80 RBI and 30+ HR's per season as well. I don't see many like him in any other world unless they are super stud players in which you will rarely see that.

It won't do J.T. Johnson any good to stay in the minors another season.

What I mean to say is that he's a ML player, and if he's going to develop any more, he can do it an the ML level.

That's it mez, 20 games...give it an extra game or two to make sure. My point was that you could have done it last year (the extra year in AAA didn't help them) and helped yourself and not lost much, as you're gong to have them for their entire careers (I hope) as you build your future around them.

I went with sign then trade strategy and it worked, currently accept offer for a much needed relief pitcher coming my way:
