Red shirting issue-This happen to anybody else? Topic

Last year I red shirt a point guard who's name is Manning. His work ethic (WE) goes down. So I reinstate him after receiving his email voicing his displeasure. Then I red shirt him again. This time I get an email saying he's cool with it and that it makes sense "giving him a year to work on his game". All that is normal so far. I go through the year seeing him on my roster with the red shirt sign to the side. He plays 0 minutes. So this year he shows up on my roster as a sophomore. When I click on his stats it does not show up that he red shirted, just that he played 0 minutes. I submit a ticked and they tell me that, after checking their records....I pulled the red shirt back. That is absolute manure. If I would of pulled it back a second time and the guy plays 0 minutes in the whole season, the guys WE would have shown that. What really stinks is that I can't get somebody to fix this and we are in the middle of recruiting. Spacing out players in certain positions is pretty important in this game that we all pay money to play. We do I want two point guards in the same class? What really burns me is that their customer service at WI Sports, is not responding. It's not like I can call a 1-800 number to talk to somebody. I've submittted 1 ticket, gotten one response and have submitted two more email....with no response. In the meantime I'm trying to recruit but not sure how to since I'm stuck with two point guards in the same class. Anybody ever have a problem like this and wouldn't it make sense that if a guy plays 0 minutes and is not red shirted that is WE WOULD OF GONE DOWN?

Freshmen have no PT expectations, and their WEs do not drop even if they don't play a single minute. I had a guy at NCSU, Tom Hagans, do just this 3 seasons ago. I tried to RS him about 45 times that season, and it never took. I may even have changed my mind and played him in the tourney, but cannot remember...

agree, wronoj.   I have a freshmen on my team now who's only played 3.8 min/game. His WE hasn't changed.

I guess it is possible that i forgot to red shirt him and that I imagined email saying he was okay with the red shirt. And I guess I could of imagined seeing that red shirt icon next to his name. If I imagined all that, why in the world did I not get an annoying email from the assistant coach? I get one if a guy is 1 minute short of his full practice time.

Back to what wronoj said - freshmen have no PT expectations, so why would the assistant coach email you?  When a sophomore or junior are short on PT you get periodic emails from them, but you can do whatever you want with a freshman, essentially.

Also, as of a few seasons ago, the benefit of the whole "take it off and put it back on again" routine with redshirts was taken out of the game by seble.  So I have a hard time seeing that he didn't like the RS the first time, then the second time he was cool with it.  Based on seble's change in this area, he never would have been happy with the RS.
