I just signed a player in Iba that I had put a ton of effort into last season, lost him, and he transferred from that school due to lack of playing time/broken promises.  I got lucky that no one challenged me for him.

My beef is that all that recruiting effort disappears.  I'm sure it would be hard to save all the recruiting efforts for every recruit in case someone transfers and that may be the end of the story, but just like we maintain recruiting efforts for players that go Juco, we should get the same "memory" for those that become transfers.  I think I dropped about 65K on him last season at 50 miles away which would certainly be useful to me in the event that he transfers (as he did).  Getting nothing out of that doesn't feel right to me.  It seems that we should at least get some credit as a player choosing between two schools would likely consider the 2nd choice if he didn't like his 1st choice.

I don't believe that getting full credit is necessarily fair, but nothing seems to me to be going too far in the other direction.

Am I wrong?  I haven't sent in a ticket yet and thought I'd poll the masses to get differing views and see how far in the minority I actually am.

I like that idea.  As you say, it's very similar to the juco situation, and the logic follows that the player would think, "Man, I wish I would have signed at that other school who wanted me."

When I coached d 3 I had a player I lost out on a battle to a conference mate. The next season the conference mate cut the player because he thought he wasn't a good enough recruit and during the recruiting cycle the player automatically considered me with no effort at all in that recruiting period. I was a bit shocked seeing that I didn't even send as much as a phone call but he signed with me for a scholly offer.

I think your idea is a very valid one Barrett.  As you say, if JuCos can "remember" the effort, why couldn't ALL recruits?  Maybe there would have to be a minimum amount of effort put in for the recruit's "memory" to kick in, but I don't see why it couldn't work.

I signed a transfer for $100 that I had put some recruiting effort into the previous season.  He was considering me from the beginning.
