AAA P Stamina? Topic

I'll start off by saying I don't expect much from AAA players. That said...

I have a rookie P. He's a starter and is stamina is a C.

77 games into the season. He's thrown 15.2 innings and he's exhausted.

Any explanation for this? Is there a chart or breakdown anywhere of what the stamina ratings estimate to over 162 games? C stamina would make me think that a STARTER (I'm using him as long relief) would be able to pitch at least 100 innings.

Thoughts?

Thanks

For several years now stamina refers to IP/game, not total IP.  Think about a guy like Bob Milacki or the short season of McDowell, or any of numerous others.  Those guys can throw a decent number of pitches per game but still can only throw ~30 innings/season.  From the AAA - Just the Charts thread:

STAMINA Based on innings pitched per game (IP/G):
Rating                 Range
A                     7.00 and up

B                     6.00 to 7.00

C                     4.00 to 6.00

D                     2.00 to 4.00

E                     1.00 to 2.00

F                     0.00 to 1.00

So your guy has somewhere between 4.00 and 6.00 IP/g.  You know nothing about total innings, although it sounds like your empirical data suggests it's not much over the database minimum of 25.

If you want you can use the info in the AAA - Just the Charts thread to identify the player in the database on whom your AAA player is based.  That will give you the exact number of innings he threw.

This is a very common misunderstanding...it's posted in several places in the forums, but anyone have any ideas on how we can help folks get this information more easily?  Seems like a version of this Q gets asked a lot.  Anyone up for creating a general "Frequently Asked Questions" thread?

Perhaps WIS should create two separate ratings for pitcher stamina, and call them something like "in-game stamina" and "season stamina."

That chart helps a bit. But the oddest thing is this:

He pitched 5 innings (82 pitches, a little high, yes) 6 games ago. After that start, he was down to a 72, since then he's only gotten back up to an 89. In 6 games.

When he would only throw 20-25 pitches in relief, he would go down to 88 or 90, but it would take 4-5 games just to get back to 100. Seems too long to me.

25 pitches ~ 1.6 innings.  If the guy has ~30 RL innings he can pitch 1.6 innings about 19 times.  That would actually suggest it should take him 162/19 = 8 or 9 games to recover fully.  So in reality he probably has more innings than he could have, maybe about 40.

it seems like this would be best corrected if these guys were used as they were historically...as late season call ups. A
guy w/ 40 innings will experience fatigue much differently over 50 games, than they will over 162.

Maybe. He's only appeared in 10 games. Was called up only a couple weeks ago.

The plan was to spot start him since he's listed as a "Starter". I guess I'll just set his pitch count down to about 35-40 and see what that does.

Thanks everyone.

I think he is the 1915 Jesse Barnes or the 1901 Roger Denzer.   Check the defensive ratings.   If he is B/D- it's Denzer and if he's B/D it's Barnes.   Then you can research the stats and best determine the way to use the player.
