eval / coach call conflict Topic

from coach call: I don't remember if I mentioned this to you already or not, but we primarily run a flex offense. Relative to the other kids on the team, I'd say his knowledge of the flex is above average.

from evals: (1) Based on their sets, he seemed like he knew where to be while running flex, but there were a couple of times he was out of position. (2) Pretty typical of most players that age in terms of understanding the flex. (3) Nothing remarkable about his knowledge of the flex.

the cc is pretty clear: above average. the evals imply average (or am i wrong about this?). won't make a lick of difference to me when i recruit...just wondering which is reliable.

i have never compared the two, but i would put more money in the coach call being right, and i would guess he has a c- or maybe d+ flex IQ.

this is a FR right, not a juco?

thinking it over for a couple more minutes, here is my guess. "relative to the other kids on the team..." - i think this coach is talking in relative terms, on a team of freshman. he is saying the player has good IQ for a freshman, which probably implies circa C- iq.

the eval might just be talking in absolute terms, to basically allow room to give info on juco IQs as well. actually, i dont think that is right. im trying to think of some juco evaluations, i think they used terms like the ones you have there. if it was all absolute, you'd think jucos would either be above average or exceptional, or something like that.

so, new theory. your animal house watching, vegas going, crack smoking assistant coach was just really high during the eval.

the assistant coach never actually watched the kid, he went to Vegas and made up the eval?

It seems pretty clear that the cutoff for what is considered average is just slightly different on coach calls and evals, similar to the 20 vs 21 high potential barrier between what you see during recruiting and after signings.  My guess is that whatever IQ this guy has would be the same IQ you'd see on any recruit if you ever had this scenario come up again.

Wow, I'm surprised the evals considered that to be "average".

My crack smokin' assistant told me a player was "great" in the offense. That translated to C+.
