I received an email before signings started from a player - Subject titled "I'ze got Skills" -  He basically said he was in the area and would be a good fit for my system.

When I looked at him, I laughed out loud and basically said he wouldn't even make a 5th grade "Select" team.

I clicked on him recently however, and now see 4 teams in DIII are battling for him!?!?!  I'm shaking my head as to why???  I delved deeper to see his potentials since I had Illinois FSS and he is Low in every category except speed (High), Reb, SB, and Passing (high).

Reason I believe a massive battle is going on for the kid, is because these coaches are new and don't know any better and went after him because the kid sent out an email to coaches saying he was interested and would be a good fit.  I was a sucker for this when I first started out too a couple of years ago, and battled for a scrub because he told me he was interested and a good fit and I believed him lol (believing a sim, smh).  I think they should remove those types of emails for DIII since a lot of players there are still learning, or are new and don't know any better ... in this case, a walk on would be a better fit than this guy. 

Each of those coaches has at least 3-4 seasons... and the coach of Aurora's got a 331-245 lifetime record and 5 NT bids.  Jeez.

I doubt they are actually battling for him.  I can remember fairly recently getting an email like you're describing and then realizing a few cycles later that he was considering me and several other schools in my conference.  None of us actually spent a dime on the kid, so I'm not sure why we were on the list.  But I bet that's all this is.

It's actually pretty obnoxious, though.  At the time I had 2 open spots and was battling someone for a star player.  The other coach could look at my list and see 2 players, one of whom I was "battling" multiple other schools for, and maybe think "hey I should put more money into [star player]."  I'd rather him look at my list and see only [star player] and think "crap he must be a high priority, I should go away."

There should be a recruiting option for sending a flaming bag of poo for that scenario.

I pray they're all on his considering list for nothing more than a schollie offer & a letter.  He's wretched!

Wow, I was totally ignorant of that scenario ... that would be super irritating, and I agree about the option!  Kid's like a virus attaching himself to a couple of hosts.

I hate when that happens.  I've made it a habit of checking my team profile and hitting my recruiting tab to see if I'm on anyone's list who I'm not recruiting - if so, I just send the kid a RS and you drop off his list.

Yeah this is definitely what is happening here and i hate it as well... makes it seem like you have overspent to other coaches making you vulnerable

Honestly, none of you would consider this guy as being all that bad if it weren't for his terrible golden goose ratings.

The golden goose ratings are, of course, ATH and DEF. Those are the golden attributes which make or break any recruit or player.

If those were higher and he had a 1 rating in other areas, you wouldn't think he was that bad.
