personally i dont use it for recruiting because it does not factor potential, but it is interesting to use for setting your depth chart. Sometimes you may have 2 who are not that far off from each other in ratings, or maybe one guy has better ratings, but lower IQ. Using this will help you determine how closely the player matches what you prefer in the position and might show you something.
Another good use is if you don't know which position to start a guy. Maybe you have a guard that could play decent pg or sg, based on your preferred ratings, it will help you determine where he would be more effective. ex, if the guard rates at a 65 at one position over a 61 at the other position, i'll play him where he's a 65.
taniajane, I think you missed the purpose a little. I'll agree with you its fairly useless in recruiting because of not factoring potential, but it's not meant to have the recruit tell you what he plays, its better used for you to determine what he should play.
Ultimately though, all of this can be done with eyeball test. It is just something interesting to play with.
