I have a procedural question concering draft pick compensation. A few seasons ago I signed a stud SP in his 30's to a long term deal. This season I have a team option for 16 million in his age 36 season. I have the money and he is still my staff ace, but do I get draft pick compensation if he signs elsewhere if I decline his team option?

You do not get a comp pick if you decline the option. You do get a comp pick if the player declines their option.
