right... but my thinking is that I would like there to be a little more randomness so that I can make the draft a competitive advantage. the only way you can make it so currently is by sucking your way to the top of the draft so that you're in the mix for the top players. I think that playing time, coaching, and statistical success should build confidence and allow a player to "outperform" his ratings, and the Diamond "lightning bolt" should be a little more helpful... but I also love HBD just the way it is, so maybe I shouldn't complain ;)
I think somebody would ask how it would be a competitive advantage if it were more random... I think that's where scouting should come into play. I think everybody should "see" the top 15-20 or maybe top 30 players in draft prep (more like real life, few "surprise picks" in the 1st round), but scouting should have a greater influence later in the draft. in real life later picks are often used on "local" guys that have been scouted but not necessarily loved by scouts. maybe your scouting budget affects "local" guys you see, and more $ in scouting = more local "gems" that you see that nobody else sees... or something?
