Best offense to pair with the press? Topic

I just started a second team and have decided to play press. My question is which offense to run? I don't want to run the fast break and have always played the motion in the past and would like to try something new. That being said, the team currently runs the motion so if that works well with the press I would probably just stick with it. Thanks in advance for any input.

Well, take it with however many grains of salt you wish, but I have been running motion/press with Drury for 11 seasons now and it seems to be working alright.

You don't want to run the fb, but that's the best offense to pair with the fcp.  Both need speed/ath/stam more than any other set, so it makes sense to pair them together.

I like triangle with it because you can skimp a bit on offense and only have a few talented offensive players for your offense to still be decent (of course, all must be good for the press) so I guess I build the defense first and then find pieces for the triangle. I am only a few season into trying this theory though, so it may not be the best answer...

You take the standard press attributes, add bh and passing, and let the rest fall where they may and things seem to work out alright.

any offense goes just fine with the press. all press combos have been very successful (press pairings with offense i mean, not combo defenses).

fastbreak works well because of the similar focus on ath/spd, and because you need lp/per less than any offense, you can REALLY focus on that ath/spd. however, it also compounds stamina/fatigue issues.

triangle works well because you can focus on defense first, and speckle in some top offensive talent, and ride them hard, for a very nice team. triangle may have a slight advantage fatigue wise, as well.

flex works well for similar reasons, you can focus on defense first, and the speed you want in for pressing guards is especially helpful for flex offense in guards, too.

motion/press is probably the most powerful combination in the game, for the best d1 teams. but in d2/d3, my personal opinion is that generally, the value of not having to focus on offense as much in another set probably outweighs the slight superiority of the motion when presented with consistently excellent players at every position. besides, d2/d3 consistently excellent players are not necessarily great at offense, like they are in d1. but motion will do just fine anywhere with any defense, if you play it well.

bottom line is, you can use any combination and be highly successful. lostmyth's FAQ claims triangle/press is the worst set to pair with press, and i know some other veteran coaches agree - but i set a number of HD all time records with my one and only long time triangle/press club (d2, although the records stand today for any division), and if memory serves, Rails did the same with his record setting d2 club playing triangle/press, too. so the reality is - any offense works great with the press, if you play it well, and if you don't, well, there is no magic offense that will bail you out of that one :)

Seeing as the returning players and 3 of my 4 recruits knew the motion I decided to stick with it. Thanks everyone for your input.
