We've had two recent threads about how the CCIW and Freedom had one opening each. They're gone, so the top four conferences in Naismith are all slam full.
That means that the #5 conference is your best bet if looking to enter the world. The Northwest has been #5 in RPI several years running, has gotten two teams into the Elite Eight in each of the last two years, and, on average, churns out one Final Four team every year (8 FFs in the last 9 yrs, including two national champions).
The openings:
Willamette: Two open scholarships, nine(!) upperclassmen,
only Sim team left in an otherwise all-human division. While they were the only team with a 100+ RPI last year, they definitely have the roster to get out of the cellar NOW. After all, they beat me last year and I lost all my scorers.
Pacific: If you love taking over a team and immediately pulling a big recruiting class of your own guys, this is your place. Pacific has seven(!) open scholarships this year, and still have the best returning roster of all the Sims in the division.
Puget Sound: If you like getting a big recruiting class in early but don't want to go quite as crazy with Pacific, Puget Sound offers a pretty good opportunity, with five open scholarships this season and roughly 18k to fill it with.
Pacific Lutheran: If you hate long rebuilds, move on now. If that's your thing, this is your place. The ghost ship has finally left, and Pacific Lutheran is free from the grasp of dnbrown. Coming off three straight 0-27 seasons (preceded by three straight 5-22 seasons), there is no foundation of success and plenty of room for a coach to make a name for himself. I know we have some folks on here who love a challenging rebuild, and this is the best I've got.
