Presumably it directly affects whether a given hitter will tend to hit to left or right. Accordingly, the indirect effect on stats will be expressed as a function of field factors (e.g. different HR ratings for LF/RF for the playing field) and the defensive ratings of the RF and LF (maybe the CF as well - not sure if a 50 means an even spray or a tendency to hit straight up the middle).
