My team sucks and I don't know why Topic

http://www.whatifsports.com/hd/TeamProfile/Ratings.aspx?tid=14494

I know my team is young and i hope things will get better over time, but this year has been very disappointing.  I have 8 guys over 490 in total rating (which i know doesn't tell the whole story) and i am 3-16 playing against mostly SIM AI led schools.  I would really appreciate any feedback and/or suggestions.

We run a Triangle & M2M.  I start Buendia, Gurski, Graves, Teague (recently replaced Rodriquez), and Lehmann.  I wasn't expecting much this 1st year, but thought we'd win 6 or 7 conference games, so far 0-9.

Thanks for you input

First off total rating means nothing. When you have 4 guys in your starting line up with less than 40 defense you are going to lose.

A few quick observations.  Your ATH, SPD, and Defense are awful.  They need to be in the 40's  to even call yourself decent.  Especially when you play a M2M, you need to focus more on Defense and Athletisism.   Also your BH is awful, so you are gonna get destroyed by any team that presses.  Start with recruiting Athletisism speed and defense, and you'll see immediate improvement.

I think you need to bury Gurski. His ATH and DE in particular are killing you. I would probably go slowdown with a depth chart of something like:

PG - Buendia   Milliron   Graves   Gurski
SG - Graves   Milliron   Buendia   Gurski
SF - Boissonneault   Rodrigues   Miller   Sledge
PF - Lehmann   Miller   Amunson   Sledge
C - Teague   Amundson   Rodrigues   Olmos

Give distro to Buendia, Graves, Rodrigues, and Lehmann.

That last game was much better, wyoboy. I think you would have had 3-5 more wins this season with that lineup. Next season with better IQs, your team should be more competitive. If you end up with at least $1,000 of carryover plus tourney money, you might want to cut Gurski and Olmos and try to sign a player or two cheap. Wait until the last day of signings and you should be able to do FSS on Wisconsin for under $300. At that point in recruiting, a home visit and scholoarship should be enough to sign someone. You might be able to sign a recruit with a scholarship and 10 minutes of playing time. The aejones thread will help in deciding the types of players to recruit. If you don't have any carryover, you might want to just cut Gurski and/or Olmos and set yourself up for the next recruiting period. Good luck.

wyoboy, here's some advice.

Your "player stats" are there to help you. It should be evident, by looking at stats, that Gurski was the weak link - he was shooting under 40% from the field, and had more turnovers than assists.

I always use the stats over the course of a long season to guide me. If a player is shooting very well, I might gradually up the player's distro. Conversely, I would lower the distro for players that are not doing as well.

As you are coaching, always reflect on how your players are doing, and adjust your lineups/distro accordingly. Don't overreact over one game (due to a small sample size), but by 7 or 8 games in, you should know what you've got with your players.

Best of luck to you in the future.
